You should hear within a week, after two weeks try following up on any updates on the process. Some lateral processes are very quick and some stretch it out to several months.
If you haven't heard anything after a week or two, it's safe to say that you didn't get it, and they're waiting for the person they offered to accept before getting back to you. Sometimes they just flat out never get back to you.
I am in the same boat, one lateral process took two months for me not to get the job.
I am in a process right now where I had the super day the end of September and met with the final guy two weeks ago. HR said they would follow up soon and still havent heard back. I have realized the Lateral Process is a nightmare.
Never underestimate the incompetency of HR/recruiting. When I was looking to transfer from S&T to IB and one BB to another I had a painful process. The interviews went great, and I got great feedback from the interviewers on my thank you emails. HR calls and says they were sorry, but I wasn't a fit. I was dumbfounded but asked the woman to walk me through the feedback. She start reading and then says, oh sorry, you are still in the process. Your resume was just placed in the wrong stack??? Your feedback was exceptional. What process is it then? They then go silent so I ask my friend who was on the hook for a referral fee to check-in as they had been non-responsive to me. They call and make an offer the next day. At the time they had 5 groups seeking lateral hires. The disorganization of the people who run recruiting knows no bounds. I don't think they are malicious. They just don't care.
Process are ran by teams themselves. If ppl are underwater recruiting gets pushed to the bottom of the priority list just above responding to cold emails.
