Major conundrum
Hello Wall Street wannabes and has-beens, hope all of you are doing great! I go to a non-target (Pace) in NYC (love this city) and kicking ass as a finance major. I have been hearing that a lot of investment banks like to hire math and science majors after the recession.
So should I consider a second major in math? It could delay graduation seeing I'm already a junior (and I'm not getting any younger lol) but I was really good at math in high school. Would appreciate any advice on this. Keep it real!
Worry more about talking to people in the industry. Pace is a major non-target; keep fighting.
You should focus on leaving Pace ASAP
You heard wrong - perhaps you're confusing general bank hiring with investment banking hiring. Investment banking math is on the level of Algebra 1. Its all about finance knowledge but to be honest more importantly about following orders, working around the clock, and formatting shit correctly.
Sorry guys some major fixes, I am currently a junior and the guy who I heard it from worked in S&T at Merrill but he still emphasized the need for math/ science majors through out the finance sector.
ManyHenny, you are absolutely right I am working on that. BebBep, I cannot do that pal. I was rejected by NYU and I need the financial aid I get from Pace. Raptor, that is true but I was thinking, may be to stand out as a non-target it may help to be a math major?
Where there is a will there's a way. I'm not saying you should do this, but just some food for thought. Leave school for the semester, find an internship, apply to 'Targets', lever-the-fuck-up, and attend in the spring semester. You will graduate 1-semester late which could be a blessing seeing as you might struggle w/ S.A. recruiting.
