Mid tier or stick it out

Need some advice y’all.

work in ops for PWM in SLC for GS. Potentially could land a Front office job at a mid tier IB firm in NYC in a couple of months. Alternative is sticking With GS and attempting to take a route over next 4-5 years of becoming a FA or via GSAM then making the jump to IB. Is it worth taking the risk and jumping from GS to go to IB right away, or trying to move laterally across divisions in GS as I’m already in the company given how Well ranked GS is.

Absolutely take the IB job.

GS IB is never going to take someone from an FA/PWM job without prior IB experience, even internally. GS is also terrible with internal laterals. The brand name only means so much when your role is totally unrelated. PWM (especially ops) to IB is a really hard path so if you have the opportunity take it and run

Absolutely what I’m seeing. Laterals within the division are extremely feasible however moving across divisions in nigh impossible. I’m seeing that I need to enter the industry at whatever cost.
