Missing School for Interviews
So I go to a nontarget school where I will probably be the only kid going into banking and I have been lucky to have landed one superday, I still have two first round interviews coming up and a few firms I am waiting to hear back from. I was wondering how teachers reacted at targets to students missing school for a superday. Most of my teachers are cool about it, but one of them told me I would still get points deducted after my second missed class and my superday happens to fall on the day of her class and it is on the other side of the country. How do teachers normally react to this? I already had to miss her class for the first round interview (this bitch told me to take the interview from my cell phone on campus). Assuming I get this offer and don't have to go to any other super days I am not really worried, but my grade will suffer if I end up missing 4 - 5 classes. I am thinking about going to the dean about this because I am sure he understands (Wharton grad) and I have met with him before and gotten banking contacts through him. I just want to know how teachers normally react and don't want to go to him if that is normally how teachers react. Thanks in advance.
Some are cool, some aren't. I had to miss some LIT class to attend a superday and my professor basically said "That's great, but I'll have to give you a 0 on the quiz we're having that day." So i jumped ship anyways. Best decision of my life -- got the job and never looked back.
I had this problem, fuck her and go to the dean. He will be much more interested in having you make the school look good by you interviewing/potentially being hired by a firm to go on the school website.
Superday vs. loosing attendance points.
If you can't make this decision, you don't deserve a job.
Dude I am obviously going to the superday....I just wanted to know if I was out of line to make a big deal out of it or just forget about it.
No its a big deal and of course you're going to go. I simply meant go to the dean and tell him its bullshit. People go to college to improve their station and chances of employment there is no way you should be penalized for it. You may lose in the end but its worth a shot. I had a professor take 25% off an exam grade because I missed it for my Dad's funeral so I know where you're coming from many times over.
A teacher put it to me this way:
"The whole reason you even come to my class is to get a fucking job"
It is utterly pathetic when teachers try to punish you for trying to do what you came to fucking college for. Fuck the teacher and go to the damn superday son.
I totally agree Happypants, I was responding to New Yorker's dumbass comment. And that is unbelievable about your dad's funeral, I would have lost it.
