Morgan Stanley early insights (diversity) program

How in-depth do they go into your diversity category? I have some (neither close nor extremely distant) Iberian heritage though I don't have a massive connection to it. Would I get in trouble if I said I'm Hispanic?

What I meant was will they grill me about my heritage? I don't have a deep connection to it so if I had to answer in depth questions about it they might think I'm faking it and then I might get blacklisted. Or would HR just see a very qualified candidate who also ticks a DEI box so I'd get easier access to a superday and also 2025 hiring?

Note: Potentially controversial opinion here

From my observation (as a student a long time ago, as well as now a manager/interviewer), these DEI programs are very poorly executed and the screening criteria is questionable at best. It’s really a way for companies to do some virtue signalling and appease the press.

Case in point was this Indian junior who got an internship from an African American/Hispanic/Native program by claiming that he’s 1/16th African (something about his great grandfather being born in Nigeria). It was basically impossible to verify this. The guy got the job at a BB and - eventually - a return offer.

So on your original question: I doubt the employer checks that far deep into your heritage.

Thanks for your comment. I see no downside in stating it - especially as in my case, it's actually true - so I'm likely going to go with it.

I am surprised they went along with his story, but it's unverifiable and helps their diversity numbers which can only help them.

Application deadline for Early Insights is supposed to be Nov 14th. I had planned to submit this week when some tests and projects were behnd me but went online to submit and it said "applications closed." Anyone have any insight?

Lol Iberian heritage is from Spain or Portugal so you are basically white, I'm not sure that qualifies as diversity. Hispanics are people with Iberian descent mixed in with local native south American and African blood. Personally I am 1/8th native American but I would not apply to a diversity programme because I don't want to be blacklisted in case it doesn't work out.

Are you registered in a tribe? I know someone probably exactly like you - I'm not sure exactly what his blood quantum is, but he looks just like a 'generic white guy' but is (actually) part native and enrolled. it's not like you're pulling an Elizabeth Warren and faking it.

- Also, most Hispanics I've seen at such events tend to look quite white anyway (and a lot don't even have a Spanish last name). You'd definitely be fine, I think

hey man thanks for your reply. I am not registered with a tribe although my grandmother is and I could easily if I wanted to since my grandma is passionate about keeping records about her ancestors. But to be fair I don't really care that much since I don't feel native American at all, although yes it may be helpful for diversity programs..... I'll have to think about that if my normal applications go south lol

Do you know what the questions are going to be during the phone screen, what we will discuss?

Bumping this thread one more time before I take the hirevue. What questions do they ask? I did one for BX and it was something about commitment to diversity, leadership, and a recent deal / investment.

Applications to it also reopened if anyone is interested.
