Morgan Stanley HV - off-cycle 2026

Hello everyone. Just got my hv invitation by MS for the GCM off-cycle application. Submitted my application with tests on Tuesday, and just got my invitation now.

I got 2 questions:

1. Are these human generated? I’m aware many (most?) banks use automated hv but the timelines for MS I’ve seen online suggest this is a concrete next stage. Do recruiters send these invitations out of interest in the candidate’s profile or is it automated? I got the invite at 11pm on a Friday, if relevant

2. What do I do to succeed? Last time I did these for MS 2 years ago I got dinged. I’d really appreciate some advice on how to ace these

  1. Are these human-generated or automated?
Based on the most helpful WSO content, Morgan Stanley's HireVue invitations are typically automated for the initial stages. Many banks, including MS, use automated systems to streamline the process, especially for large applicant pools. The timing of your invite (11 PM on a Friday) aligns with this automation. However, receiving the invitation does indicate that your application met certain criteria, such as GPA or test scores, and passed the initial screening. While it may not be a direct sign of recruiter interest, it’s still a step forward in the process.

  2. How to succeed in the MS HireVue?
Here are some key tips from WSO threads to help you ace the HireVue:

  • Understand the format: Morgan Stanley's HireVue questions often focus on behavioral and situational topics. Examples include:
    • "Talk about a time when you thought something wasn't right and how you approached the problem and found a solution."
    • "Talk about a recent transaction that has interested you."
  • Prepare structured answers: Use the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result) to structure your responses clearly and concisely.
  • Practice common questions: Be ready for questions like:
    • Why do you want to work at Morgan Stanley?
    • What do you expect to gain from this role?
    • Describe a time you worked in a team or resolved a conflict.
  • Stay professional and composed: Dress formally, ensure good lighting, and maintain eye contact with the camera. Place your laptop at eye level for a natural angle.
  • Leverage your past experience: Reflect on your previous attempt and identify areas for improvement. If you were dinged last time, focus on refining your delivery, confidence, and examples.
  • Mock interviews: Practice with peers or mentors to simulate the HireVue experience. This will help you get comfortable with the time constraints and format.

Good luck with your application!

GCM off-cycle - rejected 4 days after submitting hv. IB off-cycle - nothing after submitting the application, but i'm assuming it'll be another rejection

Did my first round TI with an associate yesterday for IB after submitting my HV one week ago so theyre recruiting quickly

Had mine last Friday after doing HV the week before, lmk if you hear any updates

01/09 and then this. Unfortunately you might be dinged mate. I remember I got well above for all last year when I was applying for summer and still didnt get HV. I think they also screen resume before the hirevue

I recieved HV invite on weds after having applied early sept. Anything to expect for the HV?? How many questions and if it’s mainly behavioural or technical too??

Anyone knows how long after TI to hear back? Had the TI for SA last week

It’s been a week since the phone interview and heard nothing. Seems like I’ve been dinged already. The associate said i could hear back in 1-2 days after the interview

I wouldn’t stress it too much, haven’t heard of any AC invites out yet. I did my HV on Friday, do you know how many days it took them to reply with TI invite?

HV submitted September 15, received TI invite September 22, so exactly one week.

Also did the phone interview last week and heard nothing. Haven't seen anyone mention any ACs yet tho so there is still hope

Phone interview was Tue 25/09, haven’t heard anything back. Anyone got updates?

With a associate, 6 questions split between technicals and behavioural.

“Tell me about how you dealt with competing deadlines “, “why work here”, “teamwork story”

“Walk me through infra/energy SPV model”, “explain IRR”, “debt sizing in infra deals”.

This was specific to experience I had before so obvs expect something tailored to your CV. When’s your interview?

Has anyone heard about AC? Had a friend do TI yesterday for off-cycle GCM

I hated my TI yesterday (Tuesday)

Just so frustrated after so much work, all technical, no relationship to my preparations.

I don't even know where to start.

Had my TI 2 weeks ago and received email saying I was rejected. That's for SA in GCM

Anyone know when the latest ACs for January start are ? Did my TI a few weeks ago but still haven’t heard good or bad news…

I did my telephone interview 3 weeks ago and did not hear back. Tbh dk what to expect, it was pretty technical icl and associate was so cut-throat, applied 2026 IBD OFFCYCLE. Someone update us pls.

Dos anyone have any update on whether ACs have started for either IBD or GCM for the August OC intake?
