Networking for PE while still in college
I know PE recruiting is different what with the presence of headhunters and all, but should I start networking with alumni at the PE firms I'm interested in? I feel like it's easy to build a relationship now because obviously you won't be asking them for a job or a referral or anything for a while so you can feel more comfortable just chatting. Also I think that very few college kids probably actually reach out to them.
So is this advisable?
Might be a wasted time investment - I was doing this with an alumni from my alma mater while in school but then he left his firm and the industry before I even got into my bank.... so I would say it couldn't hurt to casually speak with alumni but don't go ham. Just my opinion.
