No interviews yet for SA 2024; What should I do?
I've applied to 21 BB and MM banks and have done 7 hireviews/pymetrics tests and I have yet to get an official interview. It feels like it's late in the process and I missed the boat for a good amount of opportunities. I'm a double major in quantitative finance and computer science at a semi-target school with a 3.6 gpa and I have a summer 2023 internship at a growth investors shop in Greenwich, CT. I didn't start applying/networking until mid-March and I'm getting worried that it's too late to break into a good bank for this summer. What should I do at this point in the recruitment process?
Keep grinding and firing away applications. This year is absurdly competitive and honesty it was pretty tough to recruit from even at a target. Unfortunately, you started the process a little bit late. But keep grinding and trying to get people on the phone and you will get your opportunities.
D.A Davidson is starting process in fall
Networking needs to be first priority. If you send out apps to 100 banks but don’t have a strong network with any one of them, and no one is forwarding your resume along to HR, you’ve got lottery odds of making it to a super day.
There are still some strong firms recruiting but it is essential that you speak with as many people as possible. I would also start to look at some of the LMM shops. If you are at a semi-target, chances are good you have alumni who are senior at these firms. Some of these shops do not have formal recruiting processes so having a connection is really all it takes. Once you break in, your opportunity to lateral will open many doors.
Good luck!
Network, network, network
lowkey too late for SA, network for ft
When do FT interviews start for 2025 grads?
senior fall, junior summer
Dont focus on FT yet. Trying to land a FT role will be a LOT easier with an IB junior summer internship even if it's at a MM or regional boutique. I'd network heavy with banks that tend to do interviews in the summer like Stephens, Cantor Fitzgerald, BNP Paribas, or DB.
