No RO for Buyside Internship
Happy Fourth of July guys. Pretty self explanatory — the current firm I'm interning at (Direct Lending) has historically not given returns to undergrads & all the associates come from IB/other buyside credit roles. I have been preparing to re-recruit for IB, but wondering if this is possibly a bad signal given that the industry standard is essentially an RO after junior internship. Also would appreciate any type of advice given the circumstances. Thanks all.
Ares?
Bump, which firm?
MM firm lol, not Ares
Bump
fwiw no you are not screwed, a guy here had that same experience but was at cerberus and knew for sure that they weren't getting anywhere, im retelling from memory, but from their experience that their team was happy to make introductions to other people because they were a good intern and ultimately ended up getting offers in IB/LO.
Since you know ahead of time what's coming up you're ahead of hte game of the poor ib peeps who dont know they didnt make the cut and you still have a ton of time to network ahead while the start of the 2027 FT recruitment is going on.
Also for your last point if they ask you just tell the truth i mean its the same as all the other non RO ib peeps saying that head count was cut shorter so they werent offering or that no one got an offer. should have no material effect and regardless depending on your DL firm the name should get you into a lot of doors for networking
