Honestly, if you're willing to die for a job, then you're probably not mature enough to have it. Just saying.

(*Huge exception going out to the brave men and women in the armed forces, where it's actually quite the inverse.)

I like the passion.

@9892: there are some banks (I don't know which, but I've seen at least two top 15s) that offer internships and placements for those not in their junior year. I don't expect that you will get much responsibility with them though so don't expect too much.

If a firm you want doesn't take you for a particular position, perhaps try get in for a position with any decent firm doing work you don't mind doing (ie mailroom, paralegal). Any placement is better than I think.

^you're right. You do need to have an internship this summer.

That said, you may have to start by looking at PWM or another area. IBD is tougher for sophmores - particularly if you don't have any solid connections to work off of. Have you applied to BB's PWM divisions?

International Pympoh... well in that case that's good that you already did PWM. I'd start a careful and well-organized mass emailing boutiques and mm's all around the country if I were you.

I already did, i have some leads at boutiques who liked me when we met for coffee at their office / food courts in the financial district, but I'm not sure about how to ask for interviews, I do have 1 boutique interview so far at a sweatshop, but I want to get into a larger bank. I just need a way to ask for interviews without seeming "aggressive"

If I may ask you: what strategy did you employ to get those leads? To cut to the chase: how did you approach them? Did you just go and say "Hi, I'm interested in any internship opportunities at your firm?" kind of thing?

Why don't you just work for a local boutique? Just requires a little persistence and a lot of cold calling. Obviously it's less than ideal but if you can talk about your experience modeling and doing other 'banker' work, it's much better than doing another PWM internship with a non transferable skill set.

I started my own thread on the same topic, with myself being a sophomore as well at a non-target. (U.S. news ranked as 27 in 2009 but meh, I don't think anything knows about the Business School at American)

Why not intern for a boutique ib and then get that BB IB internship next year? It's what I plan to do. I'm sure the tips I'd get in my thread will be very useful for both of us.

well, as you have two internships already you'll still have a chance for an SA junior summer even if by chance you fail this summer... though obviously it would be better to get an IBD role before the big junior recruitment though... particularly if you're shooting for BB out of a non-target (as you know, that doesn't leave you much room for error).

2x2MatrixI only read your first couple of posts, but 1.) reality check, if you don't get a BB SA position as a sophomore you can absolutely still get one as a junior, and 2.) chill out.

Totally agreed... this "If I don't get a BB IBD gig as a sophomore, then I'm fucked" sentiment is seriously starting to piss me off... it isn't the end of the world if you don't get a summer offer after your sophomore year... chill out dude... I didn't even intern in banking and got a BB IBD gig... the key is having the drive and discipline, and if you have that now then you'll be fine for junior year recruiting, but I have a feeling you're one of those "MS/GS >>> KKR/TPG/BX >>> H/W/S >>> Partner KKR/TPG/BX >>> Buy an island in cash" or my life is completely meaningless types...

You should try to land those jobs by chilling the fuck out, bro. You seem very driven and competent and that's great, but I'd rather hire someone with a little bit less passion who wasn't insufferable.

I didn't intern at any major firm, and I went to a nontarget, but I still had multiple offers from top-tier firms. And I probably had more fun in my summer vacations than you're planning on...and you can't get those back.

I'm not saying don't intern, but there's nothing wrong with spending your soph. summer at a boutique...you'll learn most of the same shit and still have a stellar resume for SA, let alone FT.
