Off Cycle Boutique/MM IB Internships (Spring)
Has anyone had any luck with networking their way into a spring IB internship at a boutique, if so what was the process like, and is it too late?

Career Resources
I’ve done it. Reached out in august and got hired by the same regional boutique/MM this November. I cold emailed probably ~25 or so before getting this offer. I had a few other interviews through handshake for spring internships but this one fell.
My biggest advice for you is to connect with alum. Send emails that say “Fellow [insert school name/mascot] Alum Reaching out for Advice” to try to spark something.
Since many of the seasonal / off-cycle internships are unorganized programs, you gotta convince the person to help you out. The one I’m doing is unpaid but I think it will help in the long run - don’t offer to do it unpaid but think about the opportunity cost of someone wanting to hire you.
Hope this helps, happy to answer any more questions.
I really appreciate the reply. Did you target a certain level alum (e.g. analyst, VP, MD) during this process? And what was your experience with the interview for the position in terms of technical questions?
I cold emailed a director. Highly recommend emailing directors/VPs/MDs because they’re the ones with the most pull in the process.
At first, he asked me a bunch of technicals and I didn’t get them all right on the spot but I probably got 75% correct. He’s tough on interns so he told me to reach out again ina few months when I had my pitch and technicals correct. And that’s what I did.
I also told him that I had interviewed with 2 IBs for full time (I’m a senior) and am not getting offers so I wanted more experience on my resume.
He eventually agreed to hire me and work with me because I told him I’m trying to break into the industry and would be willing to help his firm save time by working on PowerPoint decks, financial models, etc and he agreed.
So essentially as you see it’s about making the right connection and have the person understand your story
