Off Cycle Internship London, potential back up plan if I fail to convert?

Hi guys,

I'll be starting an Off Cycle Internship next month at a Tier 3 bank (SocGen/BNP Paribas/Nomura), and was wondering what I should do in terms of back up plans for if I am not able to convert this internship into a full time offer. Should I start applying for Off Cycle Internships and Analyst positions at other banks now just in case this one doesn't work out or wait until I know for sure if I've won a return offer or not. Any info would really help. Thanks in advance.

When does your internship start? Maybe you could do some interviews before it starts?

It starts at the beginning of March, my problem is I'm not even sure which banks are recruiting for Off Cycle Internships that start after May, when this current one ends. I also don't know if I should mention in my CV that I've won the Tier 3 Off Cycle Internship even though I haven't started it yet. Do you know the best way for me to find out which banks will be receptive to applications or should I just apply blindly?

Wondering how the environment will be for some of my buddies going for OC - on the one hand everyone is super busy right now, on the other I guess covid brings uncertainty.

From what I've read recently I think M&A hiring might pick up in the last quarter of this year so here's hoping things will get back to normal.

Thanks for the advice, I've started emailing banks I'm interested in and will start following their heads of recruitment on Linkedin so I get updates.

While it is good to have back up plans, you should go into that internship with your only view being that you are capable enough, hard working enough and dedicated enough to convert it to a full time offer. If you believe this, your output will align. Do not turn up with the mindset on day one already thinking you might not get kept on: that is defeatist before you’ve even started.
