On blackberry while interviewing at BB superday?

I know bankers are busy people. Is it normal for a VP who is interviewing at a superday just to suddenly glance at his blackberry in the middle of an interview, pick it up and start texting for 5 minutes straight without saying a word- and you just sit there in pitch silence looking out the window? This banker seemed very disinterested in me- I do not think I did anything wrong, but he seemed to have cared less? Is this normal or should I be worried?

Johnny Drama that fool.

I was at a superday years ago where the MD commanded full attention without phones out, then sat down and whipped his out once the next schlep got up to talk. such a tool

The biggest takeaway from this is that dude is an asshole.

He's allowed to be busy and have more important urgent things that need to interrupt an interview. But any normal human being would say "excuse me a moment, I need to take this." To this guy, just because you're less important to him means he doesn't need to stoop to the levels of showing you common decency while you're in a stressful situation. I've never worked in IB and I'm sure this attitude is plenty common, but I'd avoid working for this guy if you've got the option.

Almost every interview I've had the banker has peeked at their phone at some point. I've had this happen as well. Typically they will just apologize and say they have to respond to something. I wouldn't take it personally at all. As much as they like to claim that culture is so important, recruiting is at the bottom of their list and deprioritized to their actual work. So it's not just you, it's the process.
