Other Internship options

As summer is winding down, I havent been able to land an interview for IB. A lot of the guys that I networked with told me to hit them up for next recruiting season, once I have a 4 year school GPA in order for them to be able to help me more (push my resume) and to keep doing what Im doing.

Im transferring to a non target from a cc next semester, most likely doing one semester and transferring to a target/non target for fall 2019. What other type of internships should I be looking into? Im technically a sophomore, but identifying as a junior for recruiting purposes.

All the BB and Boutique FO/MO internships look like a big reach for next summer, so Im not too sure what to look into. Im just looking for an internship that wouldnt be considered a waste and that will help me come next recruiting season. Should I just start cold calling local boutiques? Should I just try networking with people in BO positions?

Im not by any means giving up or slowing down, Im just looking for some advice on what to do in my situation.

"Im technically a sophomore, but identifying as a junior for recruiting purposes" what does this mean? I was in the same boat (a technicality since I had a ton of credits transfer in) but why would you do that for recruiting purposes?

Start networking through your school asap. I come from a non-target as well so I didn't have much success with cold emails, but you never know. I'd shoot for a position within a bank, maybe an S&T or ER position. That'd make for a logical story on why you want to transition into IB in the future.

I completed 2 years and got my associate and I have two year worth of credits remaining so Im a junior, but due to the lack of internship experience, I decided to delay my graduation by a year. Therefore Im technically a sophomore since I have 3 years left, but there are limited amount of internships for sophomores compared to juniors so I identify myself as a junior to take advantage of it. If im able to land an IB internship then offer I would just complete my classes in the 2 year frame instead of 3.

I have been coldmailing my alumni all throughout the summer (slacked on july due to real heavy course in summer classes) and had decent success getting replies and they have all honestly been extremely helpful. Im still coldmailing every alumni I can find on linkedin as I understand it is a number game and one guy might actually go out of his way to help. Recruiting is basically done for all BB's from what I understood from a lot of the alumni, a lot mentioned that their firm got their class late spring.

From my understanding wouldn't attempting to get a S&T or ER internship be almost as competitive as landing an IB one? Isnt their recruiting time line extremely similar and their recruiting almost done as well?

Feel free to pm me if you want to talk more privately, always open to any advice from someone that has been in my position.
