Got it, so now you're looking to move into investment banking?

It might be tough given your background. Have you considered an MSF? Without knowing your ug GPA, you could prob get into a good program with the requisite gmat score.

Living in NYC is most definitely helpful for networking and interviewing. IMO getting another S&T job in NYC prob wouldn't be too difficult but doing a career change to IB will most likely require going back to school. I'd be interested to hear what others think about an MSF for your situation.

I think it's a good use of time, what you are doing. The GMAT will bolster your application if you get a good grade.

I have high SAT: 2310, Major GPA 3.8, Overall 3.6.

I do not want to go into S&T anymore considering how many of the desks are being squeezed by regulations and I don't see much future. But if I have no jobs, then definitely I will take another S&T job. However, is this very desk-dependent? Can I only apply to other desks that trade my products or...? I don't know how they think about me being laid off a little over a year into the job either.

Thoughts?

Besides IBD, I am also looking into ER.

Unfortunately, I haven't taken the GMAT yet.

By the way, if you're apply to ER, you should write a 4 page research report. It should be in a bare-bones style of the equity research reports you see on the street. If you have 2 of these (and these take a while to make), it'll hopefully set you apart from other applicants.

In general, I think people understand that being laid off during a restructure is something that happens in this industry, and they won't hold it against you. Your academics look good, and you have a year of experience.
