Potential SA Help

Which is a better choice for a summer internship in NYC (im interested in trading):

Brown Brothers Harriman trading internship or Barclays Capital risk management internship and then get to know some traders at Barcap and try to make the move into trading for full time?

Is it even possible to move from a risk management internship to a full time trading job?

i say barclays, harriman isnt well known as an I-Bank. Barclays also has a great international presence. as for moving from risk to trading, a friend of mine moved from middle office to risk arb as a sophmore SA. not that tough, try and bump into someone and plead your case super quickly, IE under 5 minutes and follow up aggressively. if you pester someone enough you should be able to do it.

If your interest in trading and have an opportunity at BB&H for just that why would you go to risk management even though that opportunity would be at a bigger and more reputable firm. I understand this isn't exactly going to a top boutique cause a BB didn't work out, but either way you are going to get relevant experience at BB&H and could transfer easier from that experience then from just having the name Barclay's on your resume.

BBH is pretty prestigous and old school- probably the most white shoe, blue blooded firm out there. I would definitely opt for that. Those who know about BBH and their accounts/clients are definitley in the know for banking.
