Public School to IBanking

I am graduating from the University of Connecticut in May 2007 and looking to pursue investment banking as an analyst.

Can anyone clue me in to any sentiment that exists towards UConn or public schools in general?

I have 3.73 GPA, 1430 SAT, extensive extra curriculars and internships with GE and Pratt & Whitney (quantitative skills developed in all three). My most recent poisition with GE was a marketing analyst role, so I am going to leverage those skills...Any tips?

I don't think many ibanks go to UCONN, but there were a few kids on the street from there. I think they did the general network your butt off routine. You can also go to Nearby presentations of banks at other schools to show your committment.

I think it looks good you have had such strong internships, good GPA and make sure to put your SAT score on your resume - shows you are smart. Apply online to all of the firms and network like crazy. Eventually someone will pick up your resume and you will get a shot at an interview. THEN, work your butt of in preparing for that interview!

I have been trying to network like crazy. I'm in touch with several people in the BB and plan to start cold calling like crazy in September. Newbie, Can you email me the names of the kids if you remember newbie or any recruiters you knew, I'd like to get in touch with you if you have time. My email is -.

Also you said go to nearby schools, which I was thinking of doing, but didnt know if it would be considered rude to poach on other schools. Comments anyone? Has this worked for anyone you knew?

I came from a non-target school (Michigan State). The year summer before fall interviews I flew myself out to New York and looked up Alumni and family friends that are in the industry. There wasn't a lot but it was a enough to get my foot in the door at all the bb banks. There is absolutely no point in submitting your resume online. Only 5/1000 will get picked. Big waste of time. Try to find insiders and just network with as many people as possible. If you want it bad enough you can get it. You need to find several reasons to do it because it is not as glamarous as it sounds in school. Long ass hours and a lot of work. Find the right reasons to do it or you won't last.
