Quiting Jobs in the Past
Hello Guys,
If someone was to quit like a teller position a couple of years ago such as freshmen year would that hurt in a background check for a i bank position.
Because I hear a non-rehireable would hurt status?
Are you listing references? Also, was this a commercial bank that's also a BB?
There will probably be a yes/no employment verification, but for a summer program, it's hard to imagine them delving that deep unless they know your manager or someone in HR. For instance, I hope you didn't do this to one of the major commercial banks- there's a chance it will creep out depending on how connected your recruiter is with their HR and how much info their HR has on you. Obviously, the FT offer would largely ride on your performance during the summer.
Wall Street is a very small place and coworkers and managers have long memories. Make sure whatever happened doesn't happen again going forward.
yeh I was a teller for bank of america but the full time offer background check will be done for like another BB not boa. So do you think that will matter?
I had to leave BOA because my grandfather passed away in another country and they wouldn't let me take leave of absence. I quit walmart because I was stocking food items. This was freshmen year. So do you think I should even put them for my background check ? like when they say list all the employees in the five years? If I do should I tell them I quit those jobs as well does n e one think it would hurt me for an I banking position. Yes I worked as a teller and walmart as a stocker because I come from a poor family.

if applying to anywhere but BoA, no one will find out. Being a teller has nothing to do with banking; don't put it on your resume. Even if you apply to BoA/ML you might be ok, H.R. often keeps information like this for a couple years before it gets erased. like Illini said, moving forward quitting like that isn't even an option. You'll ruin your references and won't be employed anywhere decent.
btw, i come from a middle-class family and had a job just as bad as stocking shelves at walmart in high school.

Tough call. This is a decision you need to make yourself. I wouldn't volunteer it unless they ask. "Is there anything else we need to know?" or "Why did you leave this job?" would be when you probably have to tell them.
Hey- I'm cool with Wal Mart. My cousin is an associate manager there who started with a job stocking food items. I grew up mowing lawns and worked various summer jobs from 14 until I graduated college. My first air-conditioned job working for $9/hour as a programmer for a boss who didn't yell was a godsend.
I'm not familiar with HR's screening processes to see if you would come up in some hiring database for working at Wal Mart, but the Wal Mart is probably best to leave off the resume if it doesn't leave a gaping hole in your resume. Not because Wal Mart is a bad place to work but because it doesn't help you all that much and leaves open a way for you to look like a flake.
I just have to say, though- for the sake of your long-term career, I'm not sure you're ready for banking quite yet in terms of attitude. I think you would really benefit from the discipline of a tough factory job or construction/outdoor job this summer. If you don't make it into a summer analyst program this summer, please please talk things over with your parents and see if they agree with me.
The background check is partially based on your social security number. If you were receiving paychecks from BofA or Walmart, those two positions will be associated with your SSN. If you're talking about filling out the background check form (rather than a resume), definitely put on there any job in which you received a paycheck.

why would quiting a job hurt you....... did you do it on bad terms or something?
well i left boa and walmart with out two week notices because one i had a family emergency had to fly out and the walmart just quit because i was stocking so my back was dying
