Raymond James and the Mobileye Deal
Raymond James served as the principal adviser on Mobileye's $15.3B sale to Intel. According to Bloomberg, this is the largest deal Raymond James has ever been an advisor for, and it now sits at no. 20 for top M&A banks in terms of deal volume in 2017.
What does the future hold for Raymond James? Is there any chance that it shakes off its stodgy reputation and becomes a bigger player in league tables?
I don't know about other industries but I was pretty surprised after seeing RJ as the sell-side advisor as well. I was under the impression that sell-side advisory role in tech m&a was dominated by Q, while other BBs (obviously with GS/MS in the top-tier) chasing for the buy-side roles. Not sure how this one deal would change the situation for RJ.
League tables are so overrated, especially when it comes to the smaller players for whom it may often be driven by a one off deal...
I think it's a one-off thing. It's definitely beneficial to their tech practice but at the end of the day they're still RayJay and their core competency is in the middle market.
