I have an interview coming up with one of RBC’s groups and was wondering what type of technical questions to expect. From what I’ve heard, they are your standard techs (DCF drivers, LBO drivers, WACC, basic accounting, etc…) any insight would be much appreciated.
RBC is known to be more behavioral/culture fit compared to other firms. To prep, I would recommend studying the main IB guides like M&I and Max Ellis. Also, depending on the group you are interviewing for, I'd study up on some recent deals in the group and also some group-specific questions. Good luck.
How about RE and healthcare? I’m assuming you can jump ship from tech after a couple months, I just really need a brand name on my resume at the moment
Interviewed there quite a while ago for an MBA Associate position. It was mostly fit though they asked some technicals around DCF. Think the most technical question was what tax rate is best to use for calculating WACC which is in the BIWS guide.
I interviewed with them recently for their Power and Utilities group. The technical questions were all the basic ones you would find in any basic IB Technical Interview guide. They never tried to make a question harder than it needed to be. The majority of the interview was about my current job and past experiences and how my current skills and knowledge could be transferred over. The asked me what I thought about the future of the renewables industry and my opinions on that sector (my background is in renewables investments)

What group?
Got employee references to M&A, and tech
Tech is a dead end. Group heads left to run other investment banks and SVB poached everyone else. M&A is your best bet.

RE is very small and not much of a player on the street. Healthcare is much better and does okay in equity, M+A and lev loans.

Okay thanks, that’s helpful. Was this for M&A? I’m assuming techs will be similar across all groups
Tech is definitely not dead lol we have plenty of deal flow
That’s what I heard, what are your responsibilities like as a first year.

Helpful, thanks man, seems to make sense. Good luck to you! That’s a great team
Great team indeed but a far cry from relatively chillaxed like Tech at RBC lol
Is it too late to apply or are they still conducting interviews?
M&A is going on rn, I would see what’s open. I think RE is, Lev Fin, and a couple other groups.
