Recruiting RBC and Moelis Afghanistan: My Experience
I wanted to share my recent experiences with the recruiting timelines at RBC and Moelis Afghanistan. It's been a unique journey, to say the least!
RBC Recruiting Timeline
RBC's recruiting process kicked off earlier this year with a series of networking events and coffee chats. From what I gathered, the timeline typically involves:
- Early Summer: Networking events and coffee chats begin.
- Late Summer: Applications open for internships and full-time positions.
- Early Fall: First-round interviews.
- Mid to Late Fall: Superdays and final round interviews.
- Late Fall: Offers extended.
Moelis Afghanistan Recruiting Timeline
Moelis Afghanistan's process was quite different and, to be honest, a bit challenging for me due to the language barrier. Here's how it went:
- Spring: Initial networking events and informal coffee chats.
- Summer: Application window opens.
- Late Summer: First-round interviews (mostly in Arabic).
- Early Fall: Final round interviews and case studies.
- Fall: Offers rolled out.
During my coffee chats with Moelis Afghanistan, the conversations were mostly in Arabic. As someone who isn't fluent, I struggled to keep up and understand the nuances. It was a learning experience and highlighted the importance of language skills in certain regions.
Anyone else here faced similar challenges or have tips for navigating these processes? Would love to hear your stories and advice!
Had the same issue with Moelis Nigeria, language barrier was a challenge.
Then you should have a challenge in all the other English-speaking countries on planet earth. France or Italy is the best place for you sorry
Honestly, are people in First World countries this deliberately ignorant about literally every & any Third World country? Ignorance is fine—but OP should have at least bothered to google whether or not anyone actually speaks Arabic in Afghanistan before creating a troll post
Was lucky enough to place into the GS Mars office through their DEI programs.
95% of office is Martians :(
Can I get a referral? It's only fair we should have each other's back as H.Sapiens
Yeah, let's hop on a call.
Unfortunately Earth is seen as a semi-target.
Uranus/Jupiter/Mars(obviously) seen as targets. But with networking and good behavioral answers (esp. why mars) we should be good!
Must've been a tough conversation given they don't speak Arabic either!
I feel you. Moelis North Korea asked me to recite a prayer to the Supreme Leader by heart as well as walk them through a DCF. I got the first one but the second question tripped me up hard.
Dawg. When I was recruiting for Moelis North Korea I was put in a room with Ken alone and was demanded to oil up. Did not accept return…

Majority of DEI hires must be white girls from affluent neighbourhoods
Removed.
Mid-tier bait
Bump, had a similar experience with RBC Tajikistan
RBC Tajikistan has some weird requirements. They required 3+ years of combat experience, and I was scared so I told them I was a third degree black belt.
Then they threw me into the printing room and said I had to bare knuckle box their #1 MMA prospect. I got cold feet and decided to run out the door.
Similiar timeframe for JPM Mariana’s trench
Yallah habibi, my experience was the same although I tripped up when the team at Moelis asked me if w*men should be treated as an asset or a liability (the answer is of course a liability). Unfortunately an insta-ding as I didn't answer this with enough enthusiasm! I had a blast throughout the process, nonetheless
Lazard Antarctica rejected me because I was "shivering too much" during my Superday. Who knew polar ice M&A was so competitive?
I got pretty far in the hamas coverage group process at moelis but was dinged at the end. Unfortunately they only hire columbia and Harvard grads.....
Hilarious.
Harvard is officially a non-target after those protests, showed how dumb harvard kids can be
Not surprised you did not land the Moelis offer, congrats on RBC!
Damn I once interviewed at the Somalia office of a top BB (Truist/Santander/Stifel), didn't get past the first round. Had trouble explaining what the 3 valuation methods are, in English. I'm dumb
Yeah RBC Mumbai was tough full of diversity hire South Indians and somehow a couple of black males who found their way hearing diversity. Can't really distinguish between them and south indians though. Its never been more over for non-diversity upper caste North Indian males. Gotta recruit for the Pakistan office now
Good luck getting a Pakistani visa sponsorship with an Indian passport.
I have a US passport. I'm living life on easy mode
Moelis New york invited all prospects in and asked us to have a royal rumble to select one
Heard a reputable source telling me GS is advising the Taliban on the Toyota Hilux acquisition, with HSBC advising on the money laundering from abroad.
They don't even speak Arabic there... If your gonna shitpost, atleast be geographically correct.
I applied at Moelis Afghanistan & they told me to watch navy seal mission footage. At first I was like what the fuck, am I applying to be an afghani banker or an afghani killer. Turns out, I slept with an Afghani male’s wives, all 6 of them.
Will repeat if the opportunity re presents itself.
When I was interviewing for Credit Suisse Brazil, they asked me to juggle soccer balls and build an LBO while watching Neymar highlights. Makes me wonder why the bank was so quick to fall.
Why they have office there. BAD HAD BAD HAD
Brother - the truth hurts sometimes, but there are no offices in those locations. I think you got scammed. You should try to contact Ben Moelis or whatever his name is.
.
Bet they gave you an exploding offer in nyc office
