Relevant and thorough interview preparation plan
I have found plenty of information regarding preparation and useful resources, but, as it often happens, whenever there is too much information comes analysis paralysis :) Could you please help me structurize my preparation plan. I'm going to apply for an internship in valuation. Luckily, now I have 2-3 months to prepare thoroughly and fill the knowledge gaps. Here are the books/courses that I have chosen for preparation:
corporate finance (Brealey and Myers) - I didn't have corporate finance in the university, so I guess it would be reasonable to spend some time and read the bible of corporate finance.
Investment Banking (Rosenbaum and Pearl) - if only I were given a dollar per any time this book is recommended, I wouldn't be looking for a job now :)
BIWS - as far as I understand, BIWS and WSP are for the most part comparable in quality. In the best scenario, I will have passed the whole BIWS by the interview day. If not, at least the interview guide seems good.
I must admit that my understanding of financial reporting and analysis is really weak. After having read the accounting guides in BIWS, I can talk with confidence about the three financial statements, their structure and link them. Beyond that, any more or less advanced question on accounting will be a good reason to end the interview and wish me good luck somewhere other than finance :)
1) Do you think that I should concentrate on financial reporting and analysis, read a book etc? Or is it enough just to get comfortable with the financial statements at a "high level"?
2) How optimal is my reading list? What would you add/remove? Please consider the fact that I have zero experience in finance and didn't study anything related to finance except for the trivial fundamentals. I have heard a lot of positive reviews of Damodaran's valuation books, yet some people claim that his works are more appropriate for theoretical work in valuation. How fair is that?
3) It's quite probable that I might have missed something important in terms of preparation. If that is the case, I would appreciate any recommendations.
Thank you.
