Career Resources
While I would fully agree that restructuring groups within investment banks are top notch. I would not rule out other restructuring groups. I know FTI Consulting and Alvarez & Marsal both have a great restructuring group, and they have large offices in NYC. What does everyone else think about this?
what about boutique financial advisory firms that specialize in restructuring?

Thanks for that link MMmonkey. I noticed that FTI led in pretty much all categories for Crises Management firm. Do you by any chance know or have any idea in terms of what percentage of those cases FTI has done involves debtor-side work?

Moelis & Co will likely have an impact in restructuring.
A well recognized restructuring shop in Chicago is Alix Partners. It's small, but well regarded. I think they have offices in NYC too.
Any chance for a corporate restructuring associate at big 4 (mostly due diligence, chapter 11, chapter 7 type of restructuring, trustee in process) get into financial restructuring firms?

Please contribute the names of firms or funds that focus on restructurings or distressed debt investing.
Everyone knows Blackstone and Citadel, but what are some other firms that are strong in this space.
Also, feel free to comment on the strength of each firm, standing, and specialty.

Oaktree (much more to it than distressed though), Sun Capital, Gores
Tennenbaum, Apollo
Some biz development companies that specialize in senior secured/unsecured, subordinated, and mezzanine investments (including restructuring). Focus on the middle-market segment, PE sponsored and unsponsored investments. I like these names because big banks/lenders are getting squeezed by regulations and will be limited in their ability to hold non-investment grade debt on the balance sheets (should be a plus for these middle market guys):
THL Credit Fifth Street Finance Solar Senior Capital Solar Capital American Capital
KKR Financial (Ticker: KFN) - mainly invests in large cap corporate debt/loans. Securitizes loans into CLOs for match funding. (KKR's affiliate)

There is a broad list of companies dealing in the space. Not the most refined list, but still helpful.
