SA 2026 Stress/Vent Thread

This is a thread for you guys to vent and get your questions answered.

Biggest triggers for myself this cycle:

1. Low response rates

2. Lack of interviews so far (non-DEI here)

3. Fear that people will not go through and refer you

4. People not responding to thank you emails

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some insights and advice to address the triggers you mentioned:

  1. Low Response Rates: This is a common frustration in the job search process. Many users have shared that the majority of applications receive no feedback, with automated rejections being the norm. To combat this, focus on building relationships through informational interviews and networking. A targeted approach often yields better results than mass applications.

  2. Lack of Interviews: If you're not getting interviews, it might be worth revisiting your resume, cover letter, and application strategy. Have peers or professionals review your materials. Additionally, mock interviews can help you refine your skills and boost your confidence. Remember, persistence is key, and rejection is often more about the volume of applicants than your qualifications.

  3. Fear That Referrals Won't Go Through: While this fear is valid, the best way to ensure referrals work is to build genuine connections. Follow up with your contacts, express gratitude, and keep them updated on your progress. Even if one referral doesn't pan out, maintaining relationships can open doors in the future.

  4. People Not Responding to Thank You Emails: It's frustrating, but don't take it personally. Many professionals are busy and may not have the bandwidth to respond. The important thing is that you sent the email—it shows professionalism and gratitude. Keep moving forward and don't dwell on the lack of response.

Remember, the job search process is as much about resilience as it is about strategy. Keep hustling, and don't hesitate to lean on your network for support!

Totally get how frustrating this process can be, especially with low response rates and lack of interviews. But at the end of the day, you have to trust that the right opportunity will come. Some people won’t follow through on referrals, and some won’t respond to thank-you emails—but all you can do is control what you do. Apply to as much as possible to get your foot in the door, and keep pushing forward. Even DEI candidates getting interviews aren’t always landing offers, so nothing is guaranteed. If a company truly wants you, they’ll make it happen. Stay consistent and keep going.

Cope harder lol. Within reason, the best candidates have their choice of offers. I came from a non-target and had a few BB and EB offers. You just didn’t work hard enough.

I’m working at top 3 BB champ. But regardless how many of your non-target friends have offers, how many 4.0s ivys apply and how many get rejected? I can tell you at my actual target it’s quite a lot and these kids are in clubs know technicals have good internships. So maybe we should both humble ourselves and recognize amongst the pool of thousands of finance sweats who all work hard we weren’t special for knowing how to flow depreciation through and got a little lucky on top of the work? Or maybe your just different than the rest of the street with your non-target work ethic and all?
