SA Offer Retracted from IB Firm
Hi guys, first time poster here. I was just looking for advice/opinions on what I should do. I interviewed at a MM IB firm in New York in February, and was given an SA offer by email in March. At this time, the recruiter had only sent me an offer by email, and I had not received any documentation yet.
The next day, she asked me some basic questions, such as if I will need Visa sponsorship now or in the future (I'm currently on an F-1 student Visa). After I told her yes, she became unresponsive for about three days. Three days later, she tole me she could not extend an offer, citing that she had made a "mistake", and not telling me anything more specific, despite my inquiries on why the offer was retracted. I reached out to someone who had interviewed me at the firm, and the person said it seemed like it was basically because of my Visa status.
I know there's likely not much I can do to fight for the offer, since I hadn't signed any documents, but is this a common occurrence? The whole process was quite frustrating, and I'm wondering if anyone has any advice on how to deal with this/make sure it doesn't happen in the future. Thanks!
.
Nope, this was a U.S. firm through and through.
Did you check the job posting before interviewing? I only ask because most banks make it explicitly clear if they cannot sponsor those needing visas.
And yes, I made sure to check the job posting thoroughly. It had no indication of these requirements, and I would have thought the recruiter would make sure to check before inviting me to the in office interview.
