Scottrade Internship?
Hey guys,
Scottrade recently posted an internship position at my school. I'm wondering if it's a legit opportunity, or if it's a position where you'll be making phone calls to clients and try to sell things kind of internship?
Here's the description:
"As an intern at Scottrade, you will focus on developing the skills necessary to service and maintain client accounts through working side-by-side with a successful branch office manager. You will learn about aspects of the online brokerage business, working closely with experienced stockbrokers to complete general administrative and operational duties, as well as special projects as needed. As part of your internship, you will also have the opportunity to interact with clients, in-person and over the phone."
Any thoughts? I appreciate your help in advance!
I think the description makes it pretty clear what you'll be doing. Apply if you are a freshman or sophomore I guess. It's not going to help much if you are looking to break into IBanking.
Thanks Benevolent!
I'm actually going into graduate school. I'm looking at this position because I will have half a summer free, and while most companies won't consider me because I only have half a summer available for internships, Scottrade is looking for part-time interns.
Hmm.. maybe I should go on vacation somewhere instead? haha.
Go on vacation somewhere instead. It's going to be a bs gig and you're not going to like it.
Think about the one thing you've always wanted to do, but seems too far fetched and you will probably never do.
Go do that
.
To the best of my knowledge, they don't sell anything. It sounds more like you'll be answering phones and handling account paperwork. They're a pretty sharp outfit, for a discount broker.
That being said, the idiot factor on the other end of the phone has to be e-fucking-normous. So unless you have the patience to help illiterates fill out account paperwork because they've finally decided to do something other than buy a new set of rims with their $500 tax refund, I'd probably pass.
do it.
at the least, you'll get some insight on how to open a brokerage account.
although u can do that by just opening up the website. maybe you'll get paid.
The world has changed. And we must change with it.
It's a cold calling gig.
You'd be better off tending bar. Seriously. I would rather say I spent the summer tending bar for dough than admit that I took a scottrade internship as a college grad. Bartenders at least have good stories to tell.
