Series 79 free study guide

I have a very detailed outline that I'm going to make available to the forum. Either through a editable gdoc or through a personal wiki. Frankly, we all spend way too much time studying / preparing for the exact same things.

I'm hoping that a few people will taking it upon themselves to improve upon this outline as they study.

I'll post the links later today (whichever route I decide). Email me for edit permission.

Passed today in the high 80's. Here's my debrief.

  1. STC is fine. If you have it, don't kill yourself getting any other program.
  2. Spend time on the practice tests. I took 3 open and 3 closed. First practice test was a 45%. Last practice test was a 78%. If you're in the 70's on STC, you will pass the regular test.
  3. Very few questions on options, futures, accounting, ratios. You have to know the basics....and obviously the test might change.
  4. KNOW THE LETTER OF THE LAW. A whole question will address how many days in advance a certain form must be filed and by who. That's my overall theme for this debrief...know the equity underwriting, compliance, regulations.
  5. Basic multiples. Nothing trickly.
  6. All in all, devoted two full weekends to study, reviewing notes that I cut/pasted into a Word doc during the week.

Bumping this for the incoming IB analysts/associates who will be starting in a few weeks and will be taking the 79

Thank you for the free study guide.

If I memorize all the information on the wiki / flash cards, will I be good to pass the test? Or do I need to buy the STC/Knopman study guide? Many thanks.

31bostonNope. The flashcard and outline are NOT enough, b/c they don't dig down into the nitty gritty of the regulations. PM me for more detailed notes.

Monkey, I don't have enough bananas to PM you yet, but can you let me know how to access your more detailed notes? I have 3 weeks to go until I sit for the 79 and I've already gone through your notes and the free online flashcards

im going to be starting FT at my MM in july. the firm told me however that i will NOT be required to take either series license exams...

a) is this odd? it is a very reputable shop so they know what they are doing (its a MM bank talked about all the time on WSO) b) if i want to do PE/buyside recruitment which i am 99% positive i want to do (specifically PE)- will i be inelligble to qualify without the series 7 and/or 79? even if i am not required to for PE, will i be at a disadvantage to the candidates that are certified? c) should i press my firm to sponsor me to take the exams even if it not required?

thanks!!!! please help!

I wouldn't say it was any harder than a college final exam, but you definitely can't learn it all in one weekend. The last thing you wanna do when u get off work is open up the book and start studying. Some places will let you study during work, some won't, so it's best to get started on it early if you can.

Hi Wolfpack,

Would much appreciate the materials and happy to pay the $5. How would you like to proceed?

Thank you and Happy New Year.

onemanwolfpackMonkeys,

I have the full set of STC Interactive Series 79 study materials that I will give away for free if anyone has any interest. Yes, your bank will pay for you to attend classes once you start, but trust me, it's better to study for this stuff BEFORE you start working 100 hour weeks. The book is slightly highlighted, but in otherwise great shape.

If interested, PM me. All I ask is that you Paypal me $5 for shipping.

Please advise if this still an available offer to avail ? Am interested..thanks for sharing!

No, the study guides I offered up almost 7 years ago are no longer available.
