Should I do IBD?

I am 24 years old 2nd year Analyst in Corporate Banking. I earn approximately ~$120-$130K a year and work 40-60 hours a week (lower especially with COVID-19 but longer hours if I get staffed on a live transaction). My all-in is expected to be $200-$250K when I become an Associate.

While I am fine with becoming a career banker in this field, my fear is that I am not learning technical skills that IBD people can get. Internal transfers are pretty big in my company and I can definitely aim for IBD laterals down the road. Should I do it? Is it worth it? If I do, can I still aim for PE?

I just feel like I am consistently fighting with my inner-self on whether to pursue IBD or not as all my peers are doing it.

Honestly, your crushing it and not working shitty hours. You could always get an MBA and get a senior role in another field later if you want.

Technical skills are overrated. If there's growth prospects to move up within your firm / group / specialty then go for it. Depends what you want.
