Should I try to lateral from NYC BB to a different city
Hey all,
I'm currently a senior in college. I interned at a BB in NYC this past summer and am signed on to begin working there FT this summer. I'm at what we call on here a mid-tier BB and a middle of the road or a bit better group.
I've done a lot of thinking about what I want to do after my analyst stint and I am pretty sure I want to try to move to MM PE or corporate development in Chicago. I'm from the east coast, but most of my family is moving over to Chicago to join the rest of it, and a lot of my good friends will be there as well. From what I've read on this site, it appears recruiting for PE is very different in Chicago as it is largely networking based and does not go through head hunters. They also seem to recruit heavily from banks in Chicago. I don't currently have any resemblance of a network in the finance or PE scene in Chicago.
With that being said, would it make more sense for me to try to lateral to a bank in Chicago, whether MM or BB, after a period of time in NYC in order to increase my odds for landing a job in MM PE or corp dev there, or would I have just a good a chance of landing one of those jobs from my BB in NYC? I'd really appreciate any insight on the topic.
