Strong Feedback This Summer But No FT Offer
Summered at a BB and I am shocked because I was told I was on-track during the midsummer review and got strong feedback for the rest of the summer.
I spoke with people I worked with and they say it's a headcount issue. Going into my senior year with no offer and a terrible job market...I don't know what to do
Update your resume with deal experience and make it in the best possible light as possible ASAP. Start emailing HR at companies and recruiting ASAP. remember that if they don't ask explicitly, there's no need to disclose you didn't get return. If they do ask explicitly, you have to disclose you didn't get a return, but usually you'd be able to hand-wave it and say you enjoyed the summer but are now more interested in XYZ for full-time.
Good luck.
Same exact situation here. This happened at a lot of spots this year understandably. Don’t feel bad, if you had strong feedback, it was out of your control. Just keep grinding, nothing good ever comes easy.
...
Get outta here
Same happened to me this year (top BB/EB), and I have a feeling we’re not the only ones. Fucking sucks man, be sure to take a few days to decompress before getting back at recruiting. Don’t lose ur confidence man, this isn’t on you, don’t get hung up on it - life comes at you fast and how you respond to situations like this will define you more than a FT offer ever would have
Really sorry to hear that. I interned at a “lower BB” and have received a return. However, I’m trying to recruit for a stronger BB / EB. If you are interested in knowing what bank & group it is (very sure they didn’t return everyone and are running a process sometime) and are open to sharing information (your bank & their process), PM me. The same to OP.
just take the offer
unbelievably tone deaf
brilliant first post, well done!
This happened to me back during my SA stint as well. You need to shoot your resume around to every EB / BB contact (if you don’t know anyone, figure out HR reps emails and send to them) you can ASAP as they’re going to be figuring out their headcount as well and there’s a (albeit very small) chance they may have people decline returns and need to look for external full time candidates. I would also not hesitate to reach out to smaller, boutique banks as they often have a slower full time hiring process so you can get the jump on that. Finally, if it truly was a headcount issue and your feedback was positive, then you should let your staffer know that you really enjoyed the experience at the firm and would be open to opportunities in other groups if there are any available - it’s easier for them to take a “known entity” that they have a summer’s worth of data points on than a random that interned elsewhere (this will also play against you at other firms).
It’s absolutely a shitty situation, trust me, I know the feeling. With that said, now is not the time to sulk. You made it far enough to get the internship and perform well - nothing you can do about a tough hiring environment. Pick your chin up and focus on locking down a full time offer, you’ll be fine - for what it’s worth, I ended up at a MF / UMM PE firm after not getting the SA return offer
