Used to be really into anime in high school and was a sub-only supremacist. Now only getting back into (legit just started again this week), I find dub a much more enjoyable viewing experience. With dub I don't have to keep my eyes glued to the screen to know whats happening + American accent > Japanese (I personally don't like high-pitched voices)
Some subs are utter trash, I dont speak the language!! Why anime feels that I need to use subs to watch some virgin get reincarnated as a slime, or some retarded high schooler neet arguing with his classmates. Im sorry, but I dont have to hear a bunch of bullshit 12 year olds screaming NANI and GANBATTE at each other to enjoy a show. Sometimes I just want to chill, browse my phone, and play some chill dubs in the background without having to watch the screen like a hawk, its anime FFS its supposed to be low stakes not a prestige drama.
There are examples where the dub is genuinely better, samurai champloo, bebop, ghost stories, newer shit too like haikyuu and beastars and mob psycho and OPM are imo way better dubbed, because americans tend to be funnier than japanese (anime humor is notoriously not funny at all, im sorry but I just cant laugh at "OMG THIS BOY REACTED IN THIS WAY TO THIS GIRL DOING THIS MILD LOW CONSEQUENCE THING, PEAK OF COMEDY RIGHT??? XD").
