Summer Internship - Delayed OPT?

Hi all,

I was fortunate to receive an offer to intern at a BB in IB this upcoming summer. For those who are international students, you guys know the struggle we go through to find an internship.

I am really scared that I won't have my EAD card in time for my internship. I applied on March 12, and my internship starts on June 4. I haven't received any updates other than the case Receipt Number this: "Notice Was Returned To USCIS Because The Post Office Could Not Deliver It" - I had the wrong address but already changed and my school said this will not delay the application.

USCIS says that the application takes 90 days, but only 85 will have gone by before I start.

Has anyone dealt with this before? Is it ok to miss the first week of training? Could I attend training unpaid until my EAD cards arrive?

Thank you so much for all the help!

Unfortunately, I think you're screwed. 90 days is actually a conservative estimate - this year I've heard of it taking 120+ days. I would talk to your bank immediately and see what they can do to give you a different time period for your internship. To answer your follow up questions, legally no you cannot attend training unpaid until the EAD arrives - this opens up you and your bank to a LOT of legal issues but hopefully if you talk to them they can figure out something else for you.

CPT often has school-specific criteria that aren't always easy to satisfy, some schools are more lenient with how they process/allow CPT than others - I assumed OP used OPT because he couldn't use CPT (which he confirmed below).

I'm in a similar situation. My case status updated to "New Card is Being Produced" and I am supposed to start June 1st. Fortunately my school has my entire CPT application ready to be approved in a day's notice should it not arrive in time.

Does anyone have an idea of how long it takes for the card to arrive to your address?
