Thoughts on delaying recruitment for IB

I’m currently a freshman at a community college and plan to stay here through the end of sophomore year. There are zero alumni from my CC in IB. Let’s assume the school I transfer to is a target.

Should I stay an extra semester so I can defer recruiting and aim for SA 2029, when I’ll be at my transfer school?

Or should I recruit for SA 2028 at my CC, and if that fails, recruit for SA 2029 as well? Would bankers frown upon that?

Yo bro I’m at a non-target and it’s tough but I’ve gotten a couple r1s and supers. However, cc is a different level of non-target and I honestly don’t think it’s even worth a shot when you think that you could potentially move to a target + defer your grad to recruit for SA 29. I would not say it’s worth staying in cc at all.

No one asks what year you are or if you deferred your graduation. The only thing that matters is when you’re graduating. I deferred my graduation and it quite literally did not come up more than once in recruiting, and even then it was just someone asking out of curiosity so it was a non-factor. Spend time on the things that really matter (learning technicals completely, networking, getting into a top-tier target, etc.)

As for recruiting from your CC, I dont even know if thats possible. You have to put a graduation date down on applications and can’t put that you’re graduating far enough out for recruitment eligibility while being at a two year institution. Pretty much your sole focus should be on transferring right now.

Absolutely defer recruiting until you get to your new school, and then map out your plan such that it takes you 3 years to graduate. No one cares if you take 5 years to graduate and they won't even know. Put your new school and "Class of 20XX" on your resume and you are instantly a sophomore and right on track.

Ideally you can get an internship at some very small/local firm for the summer before you start at your new school.

There are plenty of CC -> target/semi target people in IB... they may be a bit harder to find since folks don't typically advertise that, but it's not an uncommon path

I’d say just recruit for SA 2029. I’m not even sure that it’s possible to recruit for IB while at a community college. No one cares how many “years” of college you have, it’s all about your graduation date. If you meet the requirements, you’re eligible for the role. Right now, I’d say keep the grades up at CC as much as possible so you can transfer into the best school possible. Retake SAT if needed if you have extra time as well. Maybe try to get some small role at a local firm or bank while you’re at CC, something is better than nothing. Best of luck my man.
