Transitioning to an Asset Based Lending Career

Hi,

I am just starting my 2nd year as an Analyst in Transaction Banking. I realized some time ago that I want to start making a pivot to pursue a career in Asset Based Lending, for its opportunities to cross sell products into Transaction Banking and to working in an IB environment. Luckily, at my bank, we have an Asset Based Lending group that I have already start to network with. Now, I do have a couple of questions because I want to make sure that I am a suitable candidate for an open position when it comes.

Has anyone here, ever made a transition from one side of a bank to another early in their career? What were some of the mistakes you made? What were the successes?

What are some ways that I can prepare myself for this transition and conversations with people in ABL? Any homework or material I should be consuming?

Would it be better to look for a role in ABL at a smaller bank? How should I go about making those connections?

How does pursuing an MBA streamline these questions?
