Transportation, Shipping, & Logistics
Does anyone know what major banks have solid dealflow in this area? Also, is Morgan Stanley the lone bank with an independent transportation team that isn't siloed under a broader industrials group?

On the shipping side (can't speak to the broader transportation & logistics side), you've got mainly European banks (say HSH Nordbank, Commerzbank, DNB, Nordea, RBS) but a lot of them have taken a hit lately and aren't as active/aggressive. On the American side, Jefferies is active, so is Evercore, and Morgan Stanley as well. JP Morgan also has an Asset Management team focused on shipping out of London and recently resumed analyst coverage of the industry. There are also a handful of smaller niche banks that are very active in the space that don't chase the larger deals that the big boys do such as DVB, ABN AMRO, Clarkson Capital Markets, Pareto Securities, CIT, Arctic Securities, and Nord LB.
MS is strong on the logistics side. XPO's banker.
Evercore might be strong in us but non existent in Europe. Rothschild Macquarie and Ms have infrastructure teams.
Specifically re: shipping, do any of the BBs other than MS have IBD groups? Are they all filed under Industrials but still have groups?
I've had some recent contact with the industry and definitely interested in pursuing it next summer
I think the majority have it under the broader Industrials umbrella. Given the cyclical nature of the shipping industry, the larger shops jump in and jump out and don't necessarily have a dedicated desk at all times.
Very cool, thanks
BofAML has strong in the shipping coverage. One of the Directors almost solely covers that sector.
IB Transportation Groups (Originally Posted: 11/05/2012)
First time posting here. I just finished a MS program where I focused my research on transportation issues, particularly in the passenger automotive sector.
I'd like to leverage this knowledge in my job search and am looking for names or ideas on IB firms that have transportation related groups.
Just for some background information. B.S. in economics, M.S. in Applied Economics. Strong knowledge of statistical analysis (multivariate), market research, and SAS/SPSS programming.
Thanks in advance.
Morgan Stanley London, one of their top groups there for sure.
Not sure about other banks tho..
It's pretty strong in the US as well. Met a couple alumni working in their Transportation group and they've got some good dealflow. However this was about a year ago, so things may have changed.
Marine (Shipping) Transportation IBD (Originally Posted: 08/07/2014)
Anyone here have any experience with marine IBD?
Marine IBD is relatively big in Singapore but unfortunately I cannot find any primer or anything that could help me in making the NAV-charter adjusted models. Would be great if someone could point me to a resource that I could use to learn
interested in this as well
