Tricky situation for SA - Shall I crawl back?

SA at a BB's regional office. Weeks before the end of my internship, the boss wanted me to return with a desk I didn't feel like I was a culture fit with (they were very intense, non-communicative people who didn't support interns that much). So I raised this and said no to that job. They tried to place me elsewhere but because of headcount restrictions, there was actually no offer for me. Shall I crawl back about the job if I want to do it? If so how can I tactically do that?

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some steps you can take to tactically approach this situation:

  1. Assess Your Decision:

    • Reflect on why you initially declined the offer and whether those reasons still hold. Consider if the culture fit issue is something you can manage or if it will significantly impact your performance and well-being.
  2. Reach Out to HR:

    • Contact the HR department as they handle placements and headcount issues. Express your continued interest in the firm and inquire if there are any new opportunities or if the previous offer is still available.
  3. Communicate with Your Boss:

    • If you decide to reach out to your boss, be honest about your initial concerns but also express your willingness to adapt and contribute to the team. Highlight your enthusiasm for the firm and your desire to grow within the company.
  4. Network Internally:

    • Engage with other teams or departments within the firm. Building relationships can sometimes open up new opportunities that may not be immediately visible.
  5. Be Professional and Respectful:

    • Approach the situation with professionalism. Acknowledge any misunderstandings and show that you are committed to making a positive impact if given another chance.
  6. Prepare for Possible Outcomes:

    • Be ready for any response, whether positive or negative. If the firm cannot accommodate you, consider other firms or roles that align with your career goals.

By following these steps, you can tactically navigate the situation and potentially secure a position that aligns with your career aspirations.
