TTS Vs. BIWS

Hi,

So I had pretty firmly decided on doing the BIWS beginning modeling course to show initiative and interest in doing in. I've been networking pretty extensively, and one guy I talked to suggested I do TTS. He said this before I even mentioned that I was planning on a taking an modeling course. When we talked on the phone, he suggested TTS was better because of its recognition throughout banks, whereas he hadn't even heard of BIWS. So what should I do? I don't want to make it seem like I'm completely ignoring his suggestion, but I do think BIWS would be a better choice for me.

Thoughts?

I am currently taking the TTS Excel course because it was provided free as part of my SA program. The first few lessons are very basic and cover things I'd picked up in other internships. It's not until about halfway through the course that I'll get into financial modeling stuff and I'm not there yet.

Looking at the BIWS fundamentals course, it seems to skip basic Excel crap and dive right into useful stuff for banking, which it seems to cover in more depth and breadth--although I can't say for sure because I'm not taking that course.

If I had to choose I would take BIWS (you can learn Excel basics very quickly and for free), but for me it's probably not worth $200 since I get TTS for free. That said, TTS seems to have a larger variety of modules.

It's also important to note that buying BIWS allows you to talk directly via e-mail to the M&I creator, who seems to know his shit VERY well when it comes to Wall Street recruiting, culture, and so on.

I recently bought the $347 premium deal (don't forget to click the redirect link from WSO for free PowerPoint course) and so far I'm enjoying it. Sometimes he'll go a little fast, but overall it's very well presented and organized. I'm still going through the fundamentals and the concepts are explained in basics. It was pretty much made for guys with no background in finance or accounting. There's a nice comforting, professional feel to it.

Who cares if no one has heard of it? If you know your shit, then that's all that matters. Plus, Brian provides topnotch customer support and satisfaction guaranteed or a full refund.

I too am curious how BIWS would look on a resume. Is it safe to assume that not very many people actually on the street have any idea what BWIS is? Or is it gaining some popularity? Also is it common practice to put a modeling class such as BWIS or TTS on your resume?

Maybe as a joke... I'm pretty sure whoever saw BIWS on your resume would crack up.

I've definitely heard from people that I've been networking with to put a modeling class on the resume to show interest and stuff.

If you the lack experience or if you're transitioning from another field, it will help show that you're actually interested. If you're worried about how it looks on a piece of paper, then spend your $347 + extra for another program because clearly the content and presentation is not enough for you. The program even goes into detail about interviews and how you can print out models you've built and go through them with your interviewer. Your interviewer will likely ask about the program and that's when you can have these guys ready. .

you guys are missing the point. Buy BIWS cause it's a really good program and you get value for money. If you're obsessed with BIWS not being well recognised on the street then just put TTS on your resume. Nobody is gonna check that shit except an interviewer but you can answer all his questions because you did take a financial modelling course (The program might not be TTS but the content is the same).
