Two phones or one? Work/Personal

I know that Blackberry 10 has a function that kind of turns the phone into two phones-- your work phone and your private phone. You just have to press a button.

But BB 10 has basically no apps and blah blah blah. If you like the company, then that might be a good phone choice, but if you're used to something like Android or iOS I wouldn't recommend.

Single phone is the way to go. Save $100+/mo. on your personal bill and lighten the load in your pockets. Your firm has better things to do than read the love notes between you and your girlfriend, or scold you because the slut from friday night sent you a selfie. Most of your future recruiting is going to be done via personal email, and they won't waste their time tracing every unknown contact that calls you for a phone interview. It sucks losing your old phone number, but its a good way to get rid of "girl from Corner Bar" that you haven't called since freshman year at 2am, just rip off the band-aid and it will be ok.

I'm not sure how I feel about the firm having all my shit. Besides, they heavily implied that the blackberrys were not for personal use when they handed them out (not that I haven't cheated on that Seamless style).

I have only one Iphone for both private and work stuff, and it turns out a lot of confusion and bothering sometimes, mainly because of my work. If you donot have too many contact for both purposes, one is ok, but i still suggest two for clear separation. I wish to have another Nokia for work now

My firm just ditched BB so now I'm rocking twin iPhones.

In this game you never know when you're going to get chopped, so it's always a good idea to have a personal phone, especially when security only gives you ten minutes to collect your things..

Surprised to see so many of you guys use the iphone over Android. I fucking hate my Motorola, but I love the Android OS. I've had like 4 Motorola phones become slow as fuck and freeze at random. Fuck Motorola and the horse it rode in on.

And who names a phone the Droid Razr Maxx HD? Sounds like something you'd find at a bodega or an early 2000s computer accessory. And fuck Verizon too for sending me refurbished phones. They're not as good as new, you cheap fucksticks. They are impossible to break though, so I don't have to walk around with a case like a poor.

iphone and blackberry for me too, although i'm about to switch to iphone & iphone which seems a bit overkill.

Some banks pay for voice on blackberry, some don't. Depends on your role and your area. Most analysts don't travel enough to justify a separate voice plan. Sometimes they will let you do a split liability plan and let you use your blackberry as your cell phone.

It's dependent by bank. I'm just afraid that I'll go out and night and break my blackberry by accident. So having an extra phone is good for that. Keep in touch wiht your friends, and giving some separation from work and play.

I dint bother to get mine activated, I prefer keeping my shit as detached from the man as possible.

I know my bank won't actually let you activate the phone on the BB except by dint of herculean determination (otherwise known as breaking the one you're issued and having to buy your own),

Berry as a cell is the way to go, I went for a long time carting a ton of shit around in my pockets before I finally consolidated. Remember, there really is no time you can realistically be without the berry. Suck it up, simplify, and put-em together.

I had voice on my berry but didnt like it so I reactivated my flip phone as well. My bank pays for both but that might not be the case everywhere.

Just get a new personal. I had two (work was much better), and used it too much. Actually was reprimanded for it, which really surprised me that they tracked individual lines and didn't have a "catch-all" kind of package.

Do you want to receive calls on both phones from 2 numbers? For that you need to keep the phone number active with a paid provider (could be a VoIP service like Vonage etc, not sure if Skype does this) and turn on call forwarding. Stuff like Google Voice works here as well.

I'm not sure how text works, but I'm sure it works the same way.

A free text solution you can implement right now if you use iMessage a lot (the blue texts instead of the green ones, happens when both texters are using an iPhone): you can simply go in to the iMessage Settings menu on the phone and add the phone number you want to use for text. Then you can receive messages from both numbers on the same phone. Video calling and voice calling over FaceTime (between iPhones) will also work using this but only over data connections, so use it reasonably outside of WiFi.

Just get rid of the phone. One of the best decisions of my life.

Might actually have to do google voice after all. Apparently I was able to do everything except for forwarding regular text messages. Might have a solution tonight though.

And luckily, firm doesn't have people that will be looking at my phone for any reason unless i'm fired and they wipe it.

A couple of weeks I was looking into the same issue. What I was trying to find was a phone that was capable of handling two different phone numbers (personal and work). I found a Voip service that has software, which you download to your phone, that allows you to run a phone number through your phone carrier and then a 2nd line through the Voip service. Thought this was a decent solution until I found out that the phones capable of doing this are crap.

Now that I am thinking about it....I believe you can just download skype to your phone ( compatible with most current phones) and sign up for their phone service. So if the company wants to pay for this service you would have your "business line" cell phone number... You would just need to make sure your phone can run multiple apps at the same time. Anyone have any experience with this?

I have google voice on my droid and it's amazing. I don't pay for texts or minutes... and you can respond texts via email which is really convenient (in case u forget ur phone or something)

CaptKI'll offer the dissenting opinion here and say I hated having two phones. It's a huge pain as a guy to have to carry two relatively bulky smart phones in your pocket. It's also confusing because you have to remember to always call your friends on the personal phone and always call coworkers on the work phone. Soon you forget, and friends are calling your work phone, your associate is calling your personal phone, and it's a giant clusterfuck.

Just keep two separate email accounts on the same device and don't be a moron.

+1 for CaptK - feel the exact same way. Just don't be dumb about using the phone, plus it will save you $$ each month.

While having one phone will save you money, your work BB will not allow you to text, download apps, take pictures, etc. Just a thought. Your work BB can email and call and not much else.

I use three to four. Thats because I have a family/friends in various countries in Europe so I have a number and phone for each country. Its a pain in the ass and I hate it and most of the time the phones are just lying around at my current home. Try to keep it simple and stay with one

Two. You don't want anything inappropriate being sent on your work phone, and also the work phone is not good for browsing websites or checking personal mail (Android all the way).

I think it was mentioned on the other thread but Google Phone (or something like that) allows you to have 2 numbers on one phone. My brother uses it but I found it to be tough to juggle.

If you make the mistake of having a serious girlfriend at this stage of the game (a mistake we're all guilty of), then forget this idea of "2 phones." More like 3rd and 4th secret phones are an absolute necessity.

Well considering that all of the communicating you do on the company phone is property of the company (i.e. they can read your emails/texts and use the info in them against you without technically violating your privacy) I don't mind paying extra $100 a month to not take those risks. Also my work gives bberry, and for personal use i like iphone

Agree with captain K. Hate carrying two devices. I loaded up work email access onto my iPhone, and really only carry my blackberry when traveling as a backup.
