UBS - Lateral

Hi everyone,

I’ve recently applied to one of UBS’ offices in the US and received a message saying that my application was shared with the hiring manager. However, 2 days ago I received another message from HR saying “Please bare with us, we are still considering your application, It's taken us a little longer than expected.“

I have quite frankly never received a message like this from HR and was wondering if someone at UBS could tell me if it’s a positive or negative sign?

Based on the most helpful WSO content, receiving a message like this from HR at UBS is not uncommon and doesn't necessarily indicate a positive or negative outcome. It typically means that your application is still under review and that the process is taking longer than expected. This could be due to various reasons, such as internal delays, a high volume of applications, or the hiring manager needing more time to make a decision.

Here are a few insights to consider:

  1. Neutral Indicator: The message is likely a neutral update. It shows that your application hasn't been rejected, which is a good sign, but it also doesn't guarantee an offer or interview.

  2. Patience is Key: Recruitment processes, especially at large firms like UBS, can be lengthy. It's important to remain patient and professional during this time.

  3. Follow-Up: If you don't hear back within a reasonable timeframe (e.g., 1-2 weeks), consider sending a polite follow-up email to HR or the recruiter to express your continued interest and inquire about the status of your application.

  4. Prepare for Next Steps: Use this waiting period to prepare for potential interviews. Review UBS-specific insights, practice technical and behavioral questions, and stay updated on industry trends.

While the message might feel ambiguous, it’s not a negative sign. Stay proactive and ready for the next stage!
