UBS Sentiment Thread
How do people actually like working there? Is it really in free fall? Or is it regrouping before becoming #6?

Insert long apologist thread about how UBS isn’t actually that bad just a little misunderstood
When you think about a legacy franchise that had Blair Effront, Ken Moelis, Jeff Sine, Jeff McDermott, Ben Lorello, Steve Trauber plus the amazing SG Warburg franchise in the UK and Asia and managed to screw it all up, and then bought CS and may screw that up, it’s a horrible track record of mismanagement. And as far as full service franchises go, it’s pretty far behind the other US and European BBs and JEF.
That having been said, incumbency as a full service IB js a rare thing in this industry which is hard to replicate and the likelihood there will be another global full service franchise emerging is low (and no, RBC and WF are nowhere in this area) so UBS still has what is a relatively rare position as an incumbent and will maintain this. And over time, all these things move around with good leadership and investment so I wouldn’t write UBS off at all either.
And of course, none of this really matters when you start your career. It comes much more down to individuals and teams than franchises.
It does matter at the start of your career. If you have 0 deal experience and can’t lateral out or learn anything then you are in trouble
Luckily a lot of groups such as Industrials and LevFin do give you a lot of deal experience then! As the commenter mentioned, everything comes down to the individuals you work with and the teams you are in. UBS, just like every bank, has things they are good at and things they are bad at. Some groups have more flow than others, and juniors ' experiences will reflect this. I am sure the juniors on the mega-cap M&A deals that UBS was on for the Home Depot - SRS deal or the Rio Tinto - Arcadium or the Berry Global - Amcor deal not to mention those staffed the various lead-left deals that UBS has done all have ample deal experience relevant for lateraling and will be able to lateral pretty easily with good learning opportunities. I do not understand how an entire franchise get's hated on in this forum as a totality when IB is a very people and team dependent business.
Sentiment is dry as in the deal flow has dried
Negative and getting worse
