UBS/CS (Tech / Industrials) vs. MS/GS (Firm Strategy) for FT
Hey so just looking at some potential FT opportunities, would love to see how people compare the two groups. In both cases, I may consider lateraling in a year, but how transferable are the skills I would develop in each. Of course UBS/CS is actually IBD, but I imagine it would be easier to lateral into MS/GS IBD from another division in the same company.
And no I don't have definite offers, but want to understand my playing field. Most important thing is to get the offers first, of course. Hopefully, the decision is made for me.
If you want IB take UBS/CS. I think this is a no brainer
Get the offers.
^ This, OP you dont have a job (or maybe you do) and there are barely any FT spots and yet you want to “play the field”?
lmao
what is firm strategy? is that an IB group?
No, fairly sure it’s an internal corporate strategy/corp dev type group. Not advising clients but think you still get pretty good analytical experience.
Have a friend that did an analyst stint in the MS firm strategy group a few years ago and exited to MM PE.
This is stupid. No shot UBS/CS are taking any FT analysts this year, learn to crawl before you ball kid.
would even argue that an MM IB would be a better starting point than firm strategy at GS/MS if you are interested in IB/PE and all that. that said, if you don't even get this, I doubt you can really get the offer, especially given the situation this year.
Don't know about that. I'm not familiar with the program at GS but MS FS&E is pretty well respected and analysts get PE looks.
That’s false - if you look up the ex MS FS&E analysts, they all end up at very solid PE shops, on par with the MS IB analysts. GS FS primarily has ex GS IB as associates and pretty much no analysts by the way.
“They all end up at very solid PE shops” - thats just blatantly untrue. Even just a quick LinkedIn search would show by “all” you really just meant one or two lol
