Underrated Jobs/Industries
Just curious, what are some underrated industries/jobs in your opinion (in terms of comp, hours, work/life balance, WFH experience, location, culture, etc.) and would you switch out of finance to pursue that?

Career Resources
I've interned in Investor Relations before and, at the right firm i.e. a quickly expanding growth or PE shop, it can be well-paid and much less stressful than the deal side. A lot of firms are building out their in house IR teams since placement agents are costing them too much $$. I know this is still a finance job but a lot of people move from consulting into VP level IR roles, just as many IBers do
Investment Banking
1) healthcare, from pharmaceuticals to vendors; high pay, good commission or bonus, excellent health plans and no need to kill yourself. A friend just bought a house in Santa Monica, she never went to college and worked in pharma all her life. doesn't have to be medical school either
2) tech; you don't have to code to work in tech, there are program managers, product managers, innovation teams and so much more. great pay, normal hours, good locations
3) engineering; anything from automotive, to product design, motorcycles, trains to any technical product you can imagine - average salaries, but also low hours, low stress and a very safe job. Engineers are in demand in many areas and many avoid the math heavy courses at college. if you put in some effort you can even get promoted quickly. good benefits, ie. free/low cost car and more

SWE at prop trading firms (JS/HRT/CitSec/5Rings/Optiver/IMC/DRW/etc.)
Quants and traders get all the attention (and rightly so) but the SWEs can still make a lot (more than in tech), especially at the very top firms, while having less risk, stress and hours compared to quants/traders.
Fund Administration / Trust & Agency Services
Commercial insurance can be interesting and pay well if you’re a producer - I’ve heard 7 figures being very achievable.
Debt brokerage is also pretty underrated on here in particular. Competitive market, but very strong pay if you’re a super broker and good overall experience from a technical perspective.
Energy gets a bad rep these days
