Wait to do after Superday waitlist?
I had my Superday about 2 weeks ago and still haven't heard a definitive answer. I followed up with my HR contact last week saying that I had an exploding offer but their firm was my top choice. He just said that they would be able to get back to me early this week, so it's safe to say that I'm on a waitlist.
The timing is tough since my other offer is set to expire at the end of this week, so I'm not sure when/if to reach back out to the firm I interviewed with if I still don't hear back. Would it be okay to say something along the lines of "I want to reiterate that your firm remains my top choice and if I were to receive an offer, I would accept on the spot."
Yes, it is worth it. But wait until the last possible moment to send it, as not to sound too desperate.
You have nothing to lose. If you don't send it, you have to go with the other offer anyways. So might as well do it and hope for a yes.
Good luck, really.
Appreciate it! Would you suggest calling or sticking with email?
You're basically at their mercy at this point. If you indeed really want this offer, I would wait until Wed morning and shoot another email.
Bro you answered your own question. Just wait.
Been in similar situation before and this is what I did and got lucky with an offer by the end of it
What is likely happening when HR says "we will notify you this week", it means that the offer deadline of some of the candidates expire this week and if one of them denies and you're at the top of the waitlist, then you will get the offer
It ultimately boils down to people rejecting their offer and if it helps, GS is interviewing this week for their sophomore superday, so for example, if candidates with offers get a GS offer, then a spot will likely open up for you. Something like this happened to me but if you are interviewing at a top firm (GS/MS), you're most likely out of luck
Honestly if you feel you made a close connection to your interviewers, you could email them about your situation and ask if they could help and if they like you, they will forward HR your email. What is in your control is following up with HR and your interviewers to be at the top of that waitlist and hoping that someone with an offer rejects it for another opportunity
Just be careful to not pressure HR with giving you an update immediately or they will just reject you outright and I think it is better to be at the top of the waitlist as opposed to being rejected cause that rejection is final - you want them to update you only when it is good news
Please let us know how it goes! Good luck
Really appreciate all of the advice! I tried getting an extension with the firm that gave out the exploding offer, which turned out kind of iffy. Not sure if the door is completely shut, but it's not looking too good anymore. Was wondering if this should change anything about how I'm approaching things with the firm that waitlisted me. Still recruiting at other places too, so I just didn't feel comfortable giving those up. Time will tell if I made a boneheaded decision...
Well got a phone call from HR and... she personally rejected me. Feels bad but onto the next one
