What is the least traditional path you've ever seen break into IB?

Hi everyone.

I am brand new to WSO so apologies for any formatting/other mistakes. I am currently on an extremely nontraditional path toward IB and am trying hard not to get discouraged, so I was just wondering if anyone has heard of people who either started late in life (27+) or came from community college to a nontarget into banking or anything like that?

Because of personal circumstances I started college late. I am a 29 year old rising sophomore at a community college who will transfer to a large state school when I graduate in May. I will graduate with a 3.96 and have already started reaching out to my 4 year school to get set up with their career services and finance groups/professional fraternities if possible even though I am not technically a student there yet. I also have some personal and family connections I am working to leverage into finance-related internships to build up my resume, specifically at a Big 4 in strategy and advisory or other wealth management or banking internships at smaller, local firms.

Basically I want to know if you guys think I should be doing more than I am already, or if you think it is hopeless, or anything you have to offer. The main point I am struggling with is networking because of not being in a major banking city and, because of the path I'm taking, not yet having access to alumni or upper classmen or a dedicated business-focused counseling and co-op system.

Any tips or encouragement is very welcome.
