What to do if someone at current company is talking sh*t to people about me making a lateral move?

Hi all,

Weird situation here. I'm lateraling into a BB from F500 company (Corp Finance to IB). It's a relatively uncommon jump but I've been preparing/networking my ass off for the past 3 months and actually received a lot of interest which was cool. I got the official offer at a BB and put in my two weeks notice at my current company as I will be starting soon.

One of my coworkers (whose a friend of mine) gave me a call letting me know that a first year analyst on our team has been telling people that his roommate works at the same firm I'll be joining and was shitting on my resume (I slightly embellished my GPA but by .05 but its factual besides that). Obviously I decided to do some Linkedin digging to get a sense of who that was. I searched for [Bank Name] then set a filter on Connected with [person who was talking shit about me] and no-one even came up. I feel like every person in IB has a Linkedin and that surely he'd be connected with his roommate so that was strange (kid is a textbook try hard). To make it even weirder, my lateral process with this firm was super unorthodox in that I cold emailed a MD who actually responded, hopped on the phone with me, then had me interview with 3 other VPs. I never even talked to an analyst during the interview process nor sent anyone else my resume (except I did apply through the portal AFTER I had accepted my verbal because, like I said, unorthodox process.

Anyway, my question: should I say something to this first year head? Or should I let it be? Also, assuming it is true, should I be wary coming onto my new team? Any advice would be appreciated

TLDR: Lateraling to a BB, first year analyst in my current company said his roommate worked at the BB and was talking shit about my resume but digging on Linkedin revealed no such person. Should I say anything to him / should I be wary of the new group?

Ignore: there r pricks everywhere, not just finance. Now that you do know though, have your guard up.

DON’T get personal, don’t divulge details you wouldn’t feel comfortable getting out, and do NOT trust people easily. As you said you’re process was Unorthodox. Always look out for yourself Becuase no one else will.

Gotta maintain that poker face it’s called so for a reason. Or a RBF whatever name you call it.

Work your ass off.

Not everyone has a LinkedIn and some also turn on different settings in terms of who has access to see their connections

The fact that you bothered to look all that up leads me to think you're way over thinking it. Who cares if your resume was good or bad. If you do good or bad work at the bank that's the only thing that will matter
