A lot of banks communicated this model to retain analysts during the pandemic boom but may have dialed it back. Curious which banks have committed to this model / recruiting less from MBAs

If you’re good then you shouldn’t need to worry about it. Banks are always looking to bring back good analysts.
this. it has never been guaranteed but only to keep the above average performers. maybe during covid it was high because of manpower requirements
A2A is never guaranteed... given the option they will always choose you over an MBA with no IB experience, but it's easier said than done given headcount and timing issues / how few people actually want A2A. MBAs recruit waaay before A2A offers go out, and in good times some groups will give 10 A2A offers and have 0 accept. No group is going to fully rely on A2A and have their staffing depend on the whims of 24-year-olds who for the most part don't want to stick around.
if you are even mid-bucket you will likely get the offer - even pre-pandemic (2017 and beyond) A2A essentially became guaranteed for anyone performing at a reasonable level. This year it was dialed back because they needed to cut headcount, no way around that.
Express an interest early (first mid-year review or so) so staffers etc know you want it.
