Accepting two offers?

Say you had two offers… one starting in January 2023 and the other starting in September of that year. One offer is in IB and the other is in Consulting. Could you technically accept both offers, work in IB for 8 months and see if you want to stay there forever? Or is that a terrible idea?

I haven’t interned in any of these areas so I’m having trouble choosing between the two. I’ve done internships on the buy side that I really liked and hope to return to work there some day but I am also very entrepreneurial and am thinking about starting my own company way down the line. Any help is appreciated.

Understand the sentiment, but atrocious idea. I) Risk of either job finding out and destroying credibility for potential references, II) Working in IB for 8 months simply isn't enough - you wouldn't qualify as a lateral hire like those who complete 1-2 years, III) Ethically: someone else could use that offer + you'd be shafting your team at the first place.

I think 8 months is too short a tenure. If we were talking about a year, maybe you can entertain it, but on your resume if you hop to consulting it may look like you couldn't handle IB. On the opposing end, when would you know if you wanted to stay in IB? Reneging the day before you start in your consulting gig is of course going to stain, but it's not so clear how early in advance you can reneg and be 'safe.'

Technically you could potentially pull it off with some luck but you might get caught up in background checks depending on when they occur. Additionally, it would be pretty painful to work for 8 months in IB and then willingly forfeit your bonus to go into consulting. I think you’re better off choosing one and sticking with it.

Just had my trade dispute rejected by Schwab for a loss of 35k. This single issue alone should be a gigantic red flag to anyone who trades on their platform. If they have a system error, and you do not video record your trading (they actually said this), they will not honour their fuck up. Switching everything away from them. Fuck this company.
