third, maybe do ~5 minutes of meditation every morning and then after list 3 things you are lucky to have in your life...some perspective could go a long way to lowering your anxiety. You have it good. You're at a semi-target AND you found WSO :-)
I have to echo cardio. Running a mile or two in the morning mixed up with some pushups or burpees does wonders for my stress/anxiety levels.
Also, you really are not alone in the way that you feel. For one of the first times in your life, shit is getting pretty real; different people deal with it in different ways, but everyone feels the pressure.
God I am the epitome of this, I freaked out about my job before recruiting started, during recruiting, after getting my offer, while interning, and even now a year later. I think anxiety is normal for type A people. I find that the only thing that helps me is just constantly working hard and progressing in some aspect of my life. It's also interested once you get to the other side of the table, there will be so many little things that the people that network with you/the people that you interview/etc. are worried about and you don't think it is a big deal at all. It helped me realize that my problems are only a huge deal in my head, and not worth worrying about.
Honestly there is not anything proactive you can do about anxiety (with the exception of getting mental health help, which I have considered dozens of times). Just keep hustling, keep working, and keep breathing.
Thanks for the advice. I really just need to come to terms with the fact that life doesn't (necessarily) get easier (*my naive thoughts entering university)
It really depends on what type of anxiety you're talking about. I know some people who claim that their anxiety attacks are so bad that they can't function without their SSRI's.
No one can know what is really going on in your head except for you. I'd at least see both a psychologist and a psychiatrist.
Rules to success
1. Don't be a b*tch
2. Act like you were born to be rich
This applies to almost any situation.
Your attitude needs some reconfiguration.
Flip it 180 degrees, show your confidence.
Talk on your accomplishments.
Put forth real evidence,
that you comprehend investments.
Demonstrate some sentience.
Otherwise...
if you want an occupation
then give some stimulation
go down, on some clown
under his desk
be sure to clean the mess
when he blows on your chest.
Suck it up, oh that's what it means
Soon you'll be one of us coke fiends.
If sucking D ain't your style
and you want your resume at the top of the pile
show your good side
Suit lookin' sharp, face shaven clean
cop that interview, it's you're time to glean.
TLDR: This bleakness, this weakness that you project
means you need more time to self-reflect.
Made it up on the dot for a kid who was sad about his spot,
in life, his state, too much on his plate
everything fallin apart, duct tape
couldn't help him, he had to change his own fate.
Most homies here are too serious, are you reading this?
then g-t-f-o, o's for outside, yo
don't be a slopokin pokemon, a stupid slowbro.
while you're at it, get your a** off the planet, like a fly astro-
naut, don't rot in your chair without a thought
buying things you ought to not have bought,
like that crock pot of a watch, a f*ing Tissot?
I know it's pronounced Tiss-O though
don't diss my flow, home-
slice, skillet, I kill it
I toss and turn a bar i mill it
over in my head until thoughts they spread
to my fingers, each syllable lingers before it hits the page
I'm locked and loaded, prepare to engage
St, ctrl+z my lyrical rage
Hope you enjoyed these rhymes, it was good times.
but this brown clown is going downtown
where there's drinks abound, homies all around.
About to have a great night with a crew that's tight
and if you're in the right place at the right time
you might catch me with a dime.
or even a dollar if I'm a real baller
so get off your couch and come out sometime.
We are in the same boat man. Realizing the real world is around the corner provides me with a daily dose of anxiety and stress. Like most everyone has already suggested, I think the best way to handle it is to work out/cardio. Furthermore, not stressing about other things which are out of your control and looking forward to starting a career are also relieving IMO.
Attitude is everything. If you truly are miserable there's always grad school.
"Do what you can, with what you have, where you are." - Teddy Roosevelt
"Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference." - Reinhold Niebuhr
I think both of these quotes reflect a similar sentiment...the trick to dealing with anxiety is to clearly distinguish in your mind the things that you can't influence and the things that you can influence, and ONLY focus your thoughts and energy on the latter, with whatever cards you have been dealt.
Once you have acted in a particular situation, that past action becomes something that you can no longer influence, so you have no reason to dwell on it. And even with regards to the future, there are thousands of variables that can impact your life which you have no control over...and thinking about these factors does not accomplish anything. You should focus on those factors that you can control.
Also I highly recommend reading The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People...might not directly relate to your specific situation but really excellent book on how to live life in general and deal with all sorts of petty things that can cause unwarranted anxiety. The author talks about making a personal mission statement, basically outlining what you ultimately want from your life in general, and then using that to guide everything that you do.

Best thing for anxiety and stress is cardio exercise.

Also, I'm a D1 athlete so the cardio is a check.
