I'm Never Going to Be Able to Break Into Finance

Didn't land an internship during my MBA program.

Haven't been able to get a superday.

Just took an exam from a wealth management firm (Not going to say the name) to try something different than IB since my recruitment efforts have been failing badly. The recruiting manager told me that my results say I should do something more analytical like IB, being an actuary, or a director of revenue and that I scored way too high on the analytical side to be considered for a sales role even though my scores were all super high.

Should I just take the old Smith & Wesson retirement plan? (I'm only kidding).. But I don't want to do software engineering anymore. It's boring and easy.

I'm just ranting...

I actually tried that too. I even had a teacher who was a close connection and a former mentor of a JPM MD in the BO. She refused to speak to me for just 10 minutes. No reason was given and I don’t personally know her so it’s not like I did anything to influence that decision.

I also reached out to an MD at GS that was offering to help me with my search on LinkedIn. He said to email him and he’d get right back to me as soon as he could. The couple emails I sent to him were completely ignored.

Hey man I don’t have anything to say but I want to ask you how do you get people in LinkedIn to offer you help. I am in the same position as you are and I am on the brink of changing my mind into doing something else that’s not banking. Would really appreciate how you get help from these LinkedIn people.

I can't say my method for what happened was easily duplicated. He was looking for veterans to hire, I asked him if he also hires DoD employees since we work right beside them. He said sure shoot me a dm and when I dmed him he apologized and said email was more appropriate because he could look at it when at work and he would get back to work the next day. So I sent him an email the next morning so it would be at the top of his inbox. No response. Sent another email a couple days later in case he missed it. Never heard from him after that. He now just sits as a friend on my LinkedIn list and it's kind of weird since he never helped but I ignore it.
