Made a huge mistake, but corrected later. Any chances?
So I made a huge mistake today. I accidentally sent this email to this prospective employer--who is also an alum--using the salutation Mr. instead of Ms.
I sent an apology letter later saying that it was a huge mistake and I feel so embarrassed because of the mistake.
Do you think I still have a chance at this job? The person is the owner of this MM IB, if that helps.
It is for a summer investment banking internship.
I did that once on a networking cold call.
They never mailed me back.
Wow! ;(
who knows - they may have never contacted me back even if I attached a 100$ amazon gift card to it.
such is the nature of cold contacting people.
amen
someone did this to my analyst (prob cause they sent tons of cold emails). The analyst was like, if they couldn't pay attention to big of a detail, then why would he hire them?
In my opinion, the fact that you corrected it at least shows that you have some sort of attention to detail. How much later did it take you to correct?
I'd say if you hadn't corrected it at all, your chances would be extremely slim to none, and your chances definitely went up with the correction, and could even be a funny ice breaker for her to respond to your email with.
You did the right thing. I wouldn't think too much into it - its out of your hands now. If you don't hear anything in a week, and you are genuinely interested in working there, give her a call to follow up.
Literally, thirty minutes later.
Not really the same thing, but for a lot of the Asian/Indian names, it's really hard to tell. What's worse is when they have a picture on linkedin and you're still not 100% sure.
Depends on the person. If I got addressed as Ms. I wouldn't rule out a potential good candidate.
Here's some hope for you.
Last year I was studying abroad for the spring semester so I was sending a lot of emails and online applications for internships. I was contacted by a F500 company by an HR rep to have a skype interview with a finance manager. Unfortunately, the HR rep had an ambiguous first name (e.g. Kelly, Taylor, Barri, Jamie). For some reason it never even occurred to me that the person could be male or female. I communicated with her for a few weeks over email, always addressing the email with "Mr. xxx," and she never corrected me.
I had my series of interviews with the manager, and never actually talked to the HR rep on the phone or in person. The first time I heard her voice on the phone was when she was extending me an offer. Needless to say, I was shocked when I first answered the phone and heard a woman haha.
Granted, this was in the less cut-throat world of F500 finance, but silly mistakes like this can be overcome!
That's great to hear! I will keep this forum posted if I hear anything from the person.
Thank you for sending us your application for our summer internship program.
We have finalized our selection process and reviewed your application. However, we have chosen another candidate for the summer position. The internship program received an overwhelming number of applications in a very competitive year.
Best wishes in your career pursuits.
Sincerely,
Brah, its only one place... Just be more careful.
